Putin, commenting on the arrest of the People’s Deputy from the “Opposition Platform – For Life” Viktor Medvedchuk, said that the Ukrainian authorities are thus carrying out “an obvious clean-up of the country’s political field”, including by closing the media.
Danilov noted that the NSDC is familiar with Putin’s speech during his meeting with permanent members of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
“I don’t understand at all what kind of opposition politicians we are talking about … They have been in power all their lives, they, relatively speaking, have been building here all their lives … They have built their own system, they have built their own legislation. bear responsibility, they start yelling about some kind of oppression of the opposition, “the NSDC secretary said.
According to Danilov, if the three TV channels, against which the NSDC imposed sanctions in February, were really popular, they would be supported by the people, but “there was no resonance in society.”
“The Ukrainians are such a people that it is impossible to stop them … Moreover, it is completely clear that the fifth column was working for the money that the Russian Federation gave out. Now it is clear that they are worried that this is not happening. And therefore we see such a reaction, nothing surprising here is not, “- said the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
The chief editor of the “Censor.NET” publication Yuri Butusov asked Danilov whether the NSDC would react to Putin’s “impudent interference” in the internal affairs of Ukraine.
“If you think that for every speech of the President of the Russian Federation we should open criminal cases and rejoice at this, then this does not quite correspond to our plans, which we have,” the NSDC secretary replied.
Medvedchuk is in the top 100 richest Ukrainians according to the magazine Forbes… The publication estimated his fortune at $ 620 million, he ranks 12th in the ranking. The politician is known for his ties with Russia, he is Putin’s godfather.
In February 2021, the NSDC imposed sanctions against Medvedchuk, his colleague in the faction of Taras Kozak and companies owned by them and their families (including TV channels were sanctioned “112 Ukraine”, ZIK and NewsOne). It was decided to apply restrictions to these persons on the basis of an investigation by the SBU on the financing of terrorism… Among other things, the Novoshakhtinsky Petroleum Products Plant fell under the sanctions, since, according to media reports, it provided with petroleum products the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions occupied by Russia. Danilov stated that diesel fuel from this plant is fueled by Russian tanks in ORDLO.
May 11 Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova signed Medvedchuk and Kozak suspicions in high treason and attempted plunder of national resources. The media reported that in the house of Medvedchuk in Kiev and the office of the HLE SBU conducted searches.
Venediktova stressed that there is no politics in the case, we are talking only about criminal offenses.
There are three episodes in the case, the first of them concerns assistance to Russia in obtaining an oil and gas field in the annexed Crimea, the second – the transfer of secret information about the Ukrainian troops to the special services of the Russian Federation, the third – the participation of the defendants in the development of the “Luch” project, with the help of which it was planned recruit Ukrainian migrants to the Russian Federation.
On May 12, Medvedchuk and his lawyers came to the Office of the Prosecutor General and got acquainted with the suspicion… According to the politician’s defenders, he was informed of the suspicion under Art. 111 (high treason) and under Art. 438 (violation of the laws and customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. As Venediktova clarified, the suspicion under Art. 438 concerns plunder of national resources in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea.
May 13 Pechersk District Court of Kiev sent Medvedchuk under round-the-clock house arrest until July 9 and put on an electronic bracelet… The prosecutor’s office asked to arrest him until July 10 with an alternative to bail of UAH 300 million.
Medvedchuk called the case politically motivated.
