«I don’t need, I’m Nic Cage»

The talent of Mr. C it is stronger even than the call of the Marvel universe: this is the summary of the latest statements by Nicholas Cage, more than an author, an authentic character from the world of entertainment. During the Variety Legend & Groundbreaker awards at the Miami Film Festival, he released some discreet gems of him.

Accepting the award, it was inevitable to think back to the many films of various genres that have marked his long career, made up of ups and downs. In recent times he has established himself again with his style (often pleasantly exaggerated) thanks to films such as the revenge movie horror Mandy and the surreal action comedy in which he plays himself, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

Among the genres he has touched, there is also that of the cinecomics: he has interpreted Ghost Rider in two films away from Marvel Cinematic Universea box that doesn’t seem to have any intention of filling despite the personal affection that binds him to Stan Lee:

I have to be nice to Marvel movies, because I named myself after a Stan Lee character called Luke Cage. What can I do, criticize them? Stan Lee is my surrealistic father, gave me the name. I understand what the frustration is, but I think there is enough room for everyone. I see films like Tár, I see all kinds of artistic and independent films. There’s room for everyone.

When asked if he too wanted to be part of a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, however, he surprised with an answer in his own style:

I don’t need it, I’m Nic Cage.

Point for him, in short, even if many fans could argue that in the rooster of Kevin Feige there are many other equally famous and successful stars, Oscar winners who have nevertheless chosen to take the path of popular cinema which is the most popular.

Furthermore, it should not be forgotten that Nicolas Cage in the past was about to make another great leap: he had to interpret Superman in a film directed by Tim Burton, one of the most famous unrealized projects in history. He also spoke about this during the same event, admitting he doesn’t know why he never went through:

They wanted Renny Harlin to do the film. I sat with him. I was doing another film and he came to my trailer and we talked about it. I liked him, but figured if I did, he’d be an easy target. I said there had to be Tim BurtonI called him and asked if he would. He didn’t choose me, I chose Tim and he said yes. I loved what he did with Michael Keaton e BatmanI was a big fan.

Complicating matters was apparently the film Mars Attacks, which had lost Warner Bros. a lot of money. The major, according to the actor, would not have felt like starting another “strange” film:

He was similar to an 80s Superman with long black samurai hair. I thought he’d be different, a sort of Superman Emobut we never got there.

What do you think of the actor’s words, soon to be on the big screen as Dracula? Tell us yours in the comments.
