Yunus Nusi admitted that he was no better than Menpora Zainuddin Amali thus deciding to resign from the post of vice chairman of PSSI.
In fact, Yunus was elected deputy chairperson at the PSSI Extraordinary Congress (KLB) in Jakarta on Thursday (16/2). Yunus got 53 votes, ahead of Amali who got 44 votes.
“I’m sure football is better in their hands. My colleagues already know that I am resigning as the elected deputy chairperson. Of course I also have to measure myself,” Yunus said after the congress.
“I don’t feel better than Mr. Zainudin Amali. He has given the best for football, sports in Indonesia, my three years with him. I know exactly his sincerity, I am very unworthy to be here, and Mr. Amali is very fast ,” he said.
The man who served as Secretary General of PSSI admitted that he had to resign for the good of Indonesian football. For this decision, Yunus apologized to the voters who had chosen him.
“For the sake of my football in Indonesia, I have to make that decision [mundur]. I am sure that in their hands, football will become even more extraordinary. Thank you for the opportunity given to the friends of the congress participants who have given me appreciation,” he said.
“I took this decision for the sake of football in the future. We pray for Indonesian football. The National Team and others will advance in the days to come,” he added.
On this occasion Yunus also denied that this decision was taken without pressure. The former chairman of Asprov PSSI East Kalimantan is also willing to let go of his position as deputy chairman of PSSI.
“A moment after I was selected, I immediately communicated with my friends [exco dan voter]. I immediately said that I didn’t deserve to be a waketum except for Mr. Zainudin Amali who really deserved to be here. I am very sincere, it is for the benefit of Indonesian football,” he said.
