Well-known ITV presenter Piers Morgan ends up on the Good Morning Britain team after indirectly calling Prince Harry’s wife a liar on Monday. Duchess Meghan, who complained about the racist tendencies of the media and the royal court in a new interview, allegedly did not believe a word. His statements are the subject of tens of thousands of complaints, according to the British regulator Ofcom.
Moderator Morgan has been one of the most visible figures on the British media scene in recent years, for example, his Twitter account has over seven million followers. He has long worked in the tabloid press, one of the faces of Good Morning Britain (GMB) since 2015. He has, for example, an interview with Donald Trump from 2018, but also a number of controversies and acute verbal skirmishes.
Now, some commentators call the 55-year-old journalist the first victim of a media storm over an interview with Harry and Meghan aired Monday night on CBS. The couple claimed, among other things, that an unnamed member of the royal family had expressed concern about how dark his skin would be before the birth of their son Archie. Meghan also described that the pressure of her immediate surroundings and the media drove her to suicidal thoughts.
“Who did you go to? What did they tell you? I’m sorry, but I don’t believe a word of what she said. I wouldn’t believe her if she read me the weather forecast,” Morgan responded on GMB Monday morning. In a twitter post, Meghan later called her “Princess Pinocchio.” In today’s broadcast, he partially withdrew his words, but was followed by a clash with his colleague Alex Beresford, after whom Morgan left the studio directly during the broadcast.
“Okay, I’ve had enough, sorry,” he said as he left the room after Beresford began to blame him for constantly denigrating Meghan. Morgan returned to the studio after a while, but according to a subsequent statement from ITV, after internal discussions, he decided that it was time for him to leave GMB completely. “ITV has taken this decision and has nothing to add to it,” the television concludes its brief statement.
Ofcom had previously announced that it had launched an investigation into Morgan’s statements Monday after receiving more than 41,000 complaints. The moderator’s approach to the Duchess’s statement on mental health problems was also criticized by the mental health organization Mind, which is dedicated to mental health.

“It is crucial that we treat people with dignity, respect and empathy when they show that they need support or when they share experiences of poor mental health,” she said.
In today’s statement, ITV CEO Carolyn McCall assured her company that she is “completely committed” to promoting mental health. She is said to believe in the Duchess of Sussex.
