Stans West: I don’t share your fears
For the upcoming vote on the Stans West transportation project.
At the Landsgemeinde in 1979, the first plan for a bypass of Stans West was rejected. At that time, the president of the United States was still called Jimmy Carter. Meanwhile, this project has been discussed and voted on more than 16 times in various councils and commissions. Last time on November 25, 2020 in the district administration with a result of 34 yes to 12 no.
On June 16, 2022, the district administrator also clearly approved the loan with 39 yes to 16 no. If our representatives in the district administration have expressed themselves so clearly in favor of the project, I assume that the pros and cons have been discussed in a balanced way.
I cannot share the fears of some people in Ennetmoos about increased traffic. The additional traffic through Ennetmoos is due to the growing need for mobility and has nothing to do with the planned bypass. The distance from the center of Kerns to the A8 exit is 750 metres, via the ring road Stans West to the A2 it is over 10 kilometres, with eight PostBus stops to pass, which partially block individual traffic. Under these circumstances, an increase in traffic towards the Stans Nord motorway entrance and in the direction of Obwalden cannot be assumed.
With the planned Stans West bypass, the traffic via Karliplatz and the A2 will be significantly relieved and all options for future measures will be kept open, in particular the lowering of the central railway and the relief of the Stans West settlement area. I can totally understand that this project doesn’t make everyone happy. However, it is the only way to solve the unspeakable traffic situation in Stans. In my opinion, the alternative proposals of some opponents with an additional road network through a settlement area are pure delay tactics, absolutely meaningless from a traffic point of view and would never be approved. I will therefore vote yes on November 27th.
