“I do not guarantee anything.” The Director of the Atomic Agency speaks after visiting Tehran

The Director General of the Agency, Rafael Grossi, on Monday, who visited Tehran for two days last week, considered that there is a serious opportunity regarding Iran’s nuclear file, but he said at the same time, “I cannot guarantee anything.”

“During my recent visit to Tehran, I held, for the first time, detailed discussions with the Iranian president and foreign minister,” Grossi said, in a press conference on the sidelines of the meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s board of governors in Vienna, adding, “I feel that there is an Iranian understanding of our need for some concrete answers related to some issues.” .

He stressed that this visit was important, despite the agreement on many points before it, “but we needed to emphasize it.”

He said, “Tehran agreed to allow the agency to proceed with additional monitoring and verification procedures.”

Grossi had said at a press conference upon his arrival at Vienna Airport from Tehran last Saturday that Iran was supposed to allow access to information, access to sites and talk to those concerned, which indicates a significant improvement after Iranian procrastination for years.

Iran will also allow the reinstallation of additional monitoring devices that were put in place under the 2015 nuclear deal but were removed last year as the deal collapsed following the 2018 US withdrawal from it under then-US President Donald Trump.

Grossi indicated, on Monday, that “technical diplomatic solutions are possible and practical, and this is what we will always seek.”

He revealed that “the agency’s technical team will go to Iran,” but did not specify the time, adding at the same time that “we do not have a detailed list of the places we intend to visit, nor specific dates to do so.”
