The Mayor of Funchal spoke this morning on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Municipal Assembly, convened by the PSD, to make recommendations to the Municipality. A situation that Miguel Silva Gouveia considered “redundant in relation to what the Chamber already practices, both in terms of support to traders, associations, and in terms of friendly taxation for families and companies in the municipality.”
“The PSD apparently woke up from the long sleep that the city had voted for with a great thirst for protagonism, pretending to forget who, throughout this crisis, has always been on the ground alongside the people of Funchal, traders, businessmen, municipal workers , IPSS and cultural entities ”, began by mentioning Miguel Silva Gouveia, making it clear that he does not accept“ lessons in good management from those who left the city in bankruptcy and from those who, over the last few years, have limited themselves to boycott good work developed for the life of the people of Funchal ”.
The Mayor of the Municipality reinforced that “only those who know that they have disappeared without having to worry about the city are present” and accuses the PSD of setting an Extraordinary Municipal Assembly to “make four recommendations to the Chamber” and ends up “ make the sad figure of passing a certificate of incompetence to their own councilors, who could well propose these points in the Chamber, where they have to be approved, choosing instead to play at extraordinary assemblies ”.
“The reality is that this Assembly will limit itself to approving recommendations so that the Chamber can analyze them from a legal and financial point of view, while being curious that the Municipal Budget for 2020, which was over 100 million euros, has been rejected by PSD and CDS, the same subscribers of these proposals that have an additional financial pressure of millions of euros for the Municipality “, said Miguel Silva Gouveia, clarifying that it is not possible to” go about approving proposals lightly, nor be to make commitments that the Chamber will not be able to pay afterwards, via its own financial tour to Funchal, which has been sponsored by PSD and CDS ”.
It also says that it is necessary to “have coherence, responsibility and only apply what we can fulfill”, analyzing the proposals with the seriousness they deserve. It also highlights the role of the Chamber that, “since the first day of this crisis, it can be proud to have been seriously on the ground, close to everyone”.
Miguel Silva Gouveia dismissed “reminders of those who were not around in the most difficult periods, on the contrary, of those who, even in the most difficult periods, sought to create obstacles and disputes and withdraw resources from the Municipality to do what is needed in the name of be of the population ”, noting that“ not even with the lead of the Budget by the PSD and CDS if the CMF ever stopped working ”.
