“I didn’t know about the infection… ”Finger necrosis → amputation due to corona sequelae

Source = Daily Mail-The finger of an elderly man in his 80s was blackened due to the aftereffect of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

According to the Daily Mail of the UK on the 11th (local time), an 86-year-old man living in Italy had three necrotic fingers amputated after being infected with Corona 19.

Reportedly, the elderly visited the hospital in March of last year due to heart disease, and at that time, due to the pandemic of Corona 19, the test was conducted. He had no symptoms such as fever and cough, but he was tested positive.

A month later, the old man suddenly turned black his finger and returned to the hospital. Experts explained that the blood vessels of the elderly were necrotized by a’cytokine storm’. Cytokine storm is an immune hypersensitivity reaction that attacks normal cells due to excessive secretion of cytokines, an immune substance, and has been pointed out as one of the causes of worsening the condition of people infected with Corona 19. This is not the first time a corona19 patient has had a finger amputated. A man in his 50s in the United States who was tested positive for Corona 19 in February had two fingers amputated due to muscle damage. In addition, a man from Cardiff, Wales, had his left thumb amputated after infection with Corona 19.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail said, “Experts point out that Corona 19 is not only a respiratory infection, but also a vascular infection.” King’s College London professor Loopen Aria estimated that 30% of corona patients suffered blood clots in May last year.
