The 2021 Miami Open is drawing a lot of attention outside of this year’s invigorating tennis games. In particular, the breakdown of Canadian professional Vasek Pospisil in the first round caught everyone’s attention.
Now his good friend, world number 1 Novak Djokovic, has spoken kind words of support for him. In essence, the 30-year-old Canadian criticized the behavior of the ATP president at the players’ meeting in Miami.
The interesting thing is that he did it in public, including during his first-round game against American Mackenzie McDonald. After the game, Pospisil immediately apologized for his lack of professionalism and has since got many players to relate to his situation.
Last year Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil founded the PTPA to protect the interests of the players on the tour. However, it was not well received by the higher authorities. The current situation is likely a consequence of this.
In the present case, however, it is about Pospisil’s harsh comments and wrongdoing on the tennis court. Because of this, the 33-year-old Serb tweeted in support of his colleague. In addition, Djokovic vouched for the 30-year-old’s character and urged players to understand the importance of coming together.
“I’m not in Miami for the problems ahead.” Andre Agassi recently shared his thoughts on the GOAT debate, but avoided naming one of Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal as the most deserving candidate for the title choose.
Agassi believes he won’t be able to choose his “GOAT” until the three of them retire or when they can somehow play in an all-surface event.
Agassi about helping Novak Djokovic
Andre Agassi was Novak Djokovic’s coach from May 2017 to March 2018 – a time full of noticeable discord between the two.
During his conversation with CNBC, Agassi admitted that he had not provided Djokovic with the necessary assistance during their stay together. “I didn’t help Novak Djokovic for myself,” said Agassi.
“My reasons were because I believed that it was best for tennis if he could somehow get the best out of himself and get to know him and his family. I had a desire to help. My goal is to help you, however if I am in your way or if I stop your process or disrupt your process, it is best if I avoid you, “added Agassi. “But I can’t necessarily subscribe to the decisions you make.” Photo credit: Marca.com
