I didn’t expect this medal, says Cuban para-athlete (+Photos) – Prensa Latina

Santiago de Chile, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuban parathlete Daniel Milanés expressed his excitement here today after winning gold in the T-47 category 400 meter race of the VII Parapan American Games Santiago 2023.

I went out looking for this result, but in reality I was not expecting either the medal or the time, Milanés told Prensa Latina at the Mario Recordón center of the National Stadium of Chile.

The young man, originally from the province of Guantanamo, crossed the finish line with a time of 49:94, followed by the Americans Eduardo Tahmar Upshaw (50.67) and John Rayven (50.68).

Milanés declared that he had a good preparation, despite the short time because he was recovering from a grade two injury.

“I recovered and now I came to give my best and well, the result came out,” he said.

The parathlete thanked everyone who supported him, his family, his friends, his teachers, thanks to whom today I am Parapan American champion, he said.

In his conversation with this agency, he recalled that since he was little he always liked this sport, he used to run with his friends, until a teacher caught him and he managed to advance until he reached the national team.

Milanés competes in the T-47 category corresponding to athletes who have suffered the loss of part of their limbs.

The Cuban athlete highlighted the organization of the Parapan American Games in the Chilean capital.

It is a beautiful city, although a little cold, I am happy to come here and I would like to return again, he stated.
