“I did what I had to do”: Jim Parsons reacts to criticism from his colleagues that he ended “The Big Bang Theory” – Series News

The last episode of the hit sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” aired almost four years ago. It has now been made public that the finale did not exactly go smoothly. The reason for this is Jim Parsons’ decision to leave the series.

About five years ago, the hit sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” came to an end. Although the series was still very successful, the finale had to come sooner than expected because Jim Parsons refused to renew his contract. Ultimately, this was because he no longer wanted to continue playing Sheldon Cooper. Everything actually indicated that his co-stars took the surprising news well at the time. But as was announced, things were far less harmonious behind the scenes…

In the book “The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story Of The Epic Hit Series*” it has since been revealed that Johnny Galecki, who played Leonard in the series, was very disappointed with Parsons’ decision. In addition, an unexpected conflict arose between Kaley Cuoco and the Sheldon Cooper actor. Executive producer Steve Holland remembers that Cuoco refused to make any eye contact with Parsons during rehearsals. However, the dispute was soon put aside so that the series did not suffer as a result.

Jim Parsons was surprised by the reactions

In an interview with Yahoo Parsons himself has commented on the decision not to renew his contract: “It’s never nice to hear that you’ve done something that made someone angry or sad. But I did what I had to do and it was the best way to deal with it. To be honest, we weren’t the kind of group where I felt the need to have a group meeting beforehand.”

In the interview, Parsons also admits that he was quite surprised by the reactions of his colleagues. He also explained that part of him would have been happy if “The Big Bang Theory” could have continued without him. But that didn’t happen. In the meantime, he hasn’t reversed his decision, but at least softened it – because Parsons has reprised his starring role for at least two episodes of the spinoff series “Young Sheldon.”

By the way, Kaley Cuoco didn’t just clash with Parsons, but also with another co-star. You can read the whole story behind the argument in the following article:
