For Devyne Rensch it was a bit of a swallow when it turned out that he had to miss The Classic. The twenty-year-old defender of Ajax suffered an injury a few days before the crucial clash with Feyenoord.
“It happened during training. I wanted to give a pass and then it hit my upper leg, my groin,” Rensch tells Ajax TV. “It didn’t feel right right away. At first you think sucks, but then comes the realization that you are going to miss The Classic. Deep down I already felt it, but I still hoped for a miracle.”
It soon became apparent that Rensch would not be able to take action. “After the test it turned out that it really wasn’t going to be him. Then you are quiet for a while and you think: I’m just going to miss the game of the year. I couldn’t even run and then you already know it’s not going to be him. You feel sadness, anger, anything and everything, but I couldn’t help it. It just happened and I didn’t have any problems with it.”
Rensch is still missing from Ajax’s group training, but hopes that a return will not be long in coming. “It’s hard to say anything about how long it will take. I hope I can get out and run again as soon as possible. It won’t be long then. I hope I can be there again at the next game .”
