/ world today news/ I congratulate the leadership, all members, activists and sympathizers of the BSP for the strong result we achieved in yesterday’s elections! BSP has established itself as a real alternative to GERB and as a bearer of change in the eyes of more than 955 thousand Bulgarians. With a parliamentary group of 80 deputies, the left will be an even stronger factor that will defend a social, democratic and fair Bulgaria!
Like all left-wing people, I feel that we have not been able to convince our compatriots even more that we can give them and our country a better perspective for a dignified present and future! We will have to find the strength and wisdom to draw the right conclusions about what did not reach us in order to more convincingly deploy the momentum from the success of the presidential elections.
Democracy demands that I also congratulate GERB for winning an election that seemed lost. The voters charged them with the responsibility of forming the government of Bulgaria. I have serious doubts whether they will fundamentally change the policies they followed in the previous mandate. People are more likely to get more of the same.
However, it is obvious that more and more of our fellow citizens will want a substantial change in policy, and this force that is able to propose and defend such a change will gain credibility.
However, there are topics at this moment for Bulgaria and Europe on which we must seek and achieve national agreement and clear common priorities, because they affect us all. The discussion about the future of Europe, our upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU, our security, relations with Turkey, the situation in the Balkans – all these topics do not tolerate petty politicization and require strategic thinking and common political will.
I believe that the BSP, as a party that successfully led Bulgaria to full membership in the EU and with undisputed authority in social democratic Europe, will assume the role of the leading European party in Bulgaria!
