Saint Laurent Rive Droite Collaboration with Gio Ponti Archives
Saint Laurent Rive Droite has announced an exclusive collaboration with Gio Ponti Archives and the Fundación Anala y Armando Planchart for the upcoming Milan Design Week. The exhibition, curated by Anthony Vaccarello, will showcase a remarkable collection of plates at the Chiostri di San Simpliciano.
In 1953, Anala and Armando Planchart commissioned the renowned Italian architect Gio Ponti to build a cutting-edge villa on the highest hill overlooking Caracas, Venezuela. Embracing their modern aspirations, Gio Ponti designed a house “light and graceful like a butterfly perched on a hill”, filled with ingenious inventions, vibrant colors, magnificent views, collections of orchids, and artworks on display. In finalizing the interior decoration of Villa Planchart, Ponti collaborated with exceptional Italian craftsmen with traditional skills, including the Florentine manufacturer Ginori 1735, for whom he had previously worked as artistic director. He designed a porcelain tableware set adorned with symbols and motifs of the villa, showcasing his artistic talent and attention to detail: the Sun, the Crescent Moon, the North Star, and the magnificent iterations of the letter “A” – a tribute to Anala and Armando.
