“I became more dependent again”: in the Oise, help Audrey find her future disabled dog

“It’s really very hard without her,” breaths Audrey, at the end of the line. On January 7, this 25-year-old young woman, resident of Rosoy (Oise) lost Bayla, her dog. “It was a very special relationship, we shared everything, it was more than a pet. After the death of her “partner”, who came into her life when she was 13, Audrey had promised herself that she would never have another animal to guide her.

“It was inconceivable, out of the question for me,” she insists. But I became more dependent again. It’s hard to ask for help again, I have to call my brother to pick up my cell phone. »So the young woman decided to launch a online jackpot to finance the adoption of her second dog with a disability.

If it is free for its beneficiary, its training costs € 15,000, not counting an internship of € 1,080 at the expense of the future owner. The money collected (a little over € 1,500 this Sunday) should thus make it possible to finance this course and to make a donation to the Handi’Chiens association.

“In the eyes of people, I was no longer the girl in a wheelchair, I was the girl with the dog”

Suffering from Ullrich myopathy, which atrophies her muscles, Audrey gets around in a wheelchair. “On a daily basis, Bayla helped me have more autonomy, she picked up objects from the ground when they fell on the ground, barked when I needed help, opened the doors for me … -she. And if there was a step in front of a bakery, she would take my wallet to bring it to the counter. “

You can almost hear her smile on the phone: “Socially too, she helped me a lot. It was hard to be disabled when you’re a teenager, but with Bayla, in people’s eyes, I was no longer the girl in the wheelchair, I was the girl with the dog. More than a pet, this four-legged companion has helped him cope with his disability.

If she is preparing to re-apply to the Handi’Chiens association, “renewals are no longer a priority, there is a three-year wait”. Because it takes two years of learning, before an animal is handed over to its future owner. With this pot, Audrey hopes to “get things done”.
