Reconverted central defender then lateral, the former midfielder Miguel Goncalves Makiese has been looking for a new challenge since his departure from AS Cannes. Passed by Beauvais or Clermont, the 30-year-old Franco-Portuguese has a solid and rich experience. Interview.

For Foot-National readers, can you tell us about your career?

Miguel Goncalves Makiese (CV PRO): Hello to all readers. In my career, I had the chance to discover a lot of divisions, from the training center to Ligue 2, then to play in several different regions. This allowed me to have a great network but also to learn the different championship groups of National 3, National 2 or National.

Your profile has changed this season. Can you tell us a little more? How did you adapt?

I was trained as a defensive midfielder and then over the years I was repositioned in central defense where I adapted quickly. Nevertheless, since coming to Cannes following complicated circumstances, I had to adapt to switching to the left side of the defense where I was able to observe the game in a different way. To this day, I can affirm and thus confirm that I consider myself a pylvalent player. And then I hope to learn more in the years to come but especially to return to my favorite position which is a central defender.

From a personal point of view, how do you see your season?

This year we have made a lot of changes within the club, both in terms of the organizational structure and the workforce with new players. Then we left free what had been the stability of the club for a few years. Luck was not on our side throughout this first part of the season but we still ended up with the best defense in the championship, so from a personal point of view I think I did what was necessary. However, this crisis hurt us very badly as the odds began to change and our workforce returned to full force.

You are currently without a club. What projects would be of interest to you, where and at what level?

This season has gone by very quickly with all the health problems which have caused many clubs to find themselves in quite complicated situations. For my part, I was at the end of the contract but I was confident for the extension despite the difficulties. I think a lot of players can understand and make sacrifices, you just need to have the right words and the right communication to be able to handle this crisis. It’s a shame because Cannes is a great club with good people. I just hope they make the right choices this season. I had a few proposals with National 2 clubs all over France, which made me very happy but compared to the Covid and for personal choices, it was not successful so I am waiting for ‘a coherent project in relation to my situation.
