Why did you want to shoot a sequel to the feature film A prince in New York ?
Eddie Murphy – I never thought of doing A Prince in New York 2. Personally, I thought the first movie told the whole story of Prince Akeem and I was very happy to see him end up happy with the love of his life. For me, there was nothing to add to the adventures of this character who has always had a special place in my heart.
Why, then, have you changed your mind?
Eddie Murphy –A prince in New York came out over 30 years ago. I am absolutely blown away at how much of a craze this film continues to create with audiences around the world. You can’t imagine how many times I’ve been accosted on the street to tell me about Prince Akeem. Each time the film is broadcast on television, viewers are present, while this feature film is rebroadcast on American channels almost every two months. So I gave in to temptations when I realized that there was really something to be exploited.
My fear is to become unknown again.
Do you sometimes seek, like Prince Akeem, some kind of anonymity?
Eddie Murphy – Especially not ! My fear is to become unknown again. I can tell you that anonymity is not something that appeals to me today. I’m very happy to be famous and I really don’t complain about being recognized on the streets. I think I would be very unhappy if I ever lost my fame and fame. I don’t wanna change a thing and I wanna keep being a famous person (he’s laughing) ! It is certainly not my children who are going to complain about it.
Precisely, you are the father of 10 children! A real record …
Eddie Murphy – My children make me happy. They allow me to always stay young in my head. I am lucky because I am the father of wonderful children who have a fondness for art. Some want to become actors, other screenwriters, others want to become painters… It’s an artist’s family and I’m very proud of it.

I have given my consent to resume the adventures of Flic de Beverly Hills
It is said that you are about to shoot a new part of the Flic de Beverly Hills. Is it true ?
Eddie Murphy – Yes, the shooting is not yet scheduled because we continue to work on the script but I have indeed given my agreement to resume the adventures of our unforgettable Axel Foley. I think the public will be happy because we are going to have a lot of fun again.
