The mayor of the Chubut town of El Hoyo, Pol Huisman, assured today that he is using his functions, “working” in his office and stressed that “there would be a recall plan” against him that he hopes to neutralize through Justice and that “the provincial intervention was not made effective” announced by Governor Mariano Arcioni.

“I am still the mayor of El Hoyo, working in my office with people from my cabinet. One of all the irregularities committed by the investigative commission that voted to dismiss me was not notifying me of the decision,” Huisman told Télam.

“Therefore I continue to fulfill my constitutional mandate, I am at this moment in my office in the municipality analyzing how to proceed after this break, because the reality is that we have to continue to manage with this Deliberative Council,” confided the Mayor.

After a councilman and mayor were suspended for 40 days by the vote of five council members on charges of “leaking information” linked to an investigation into the issuance of apocryphal circulation permits during the coronavirus quarantine, Governor Arcioni had announced last night his decision to intervene the municipality.

“The governor called me and communicated his decision, but in the end it was not formalized because it was not necessary. What was we presented was a precautionary measure before the Supreme Court of Justice, which we hope will be issued no later than tomorrow, “explained Huisman, referring to Nuevo Encuentro, one of the parties that formed the Front of All with which in December the mayor won with 53% of the votes.

According to Tellam, with the special session in which five councilors voted first the suspension of the official councilor Gustavo Flak and then that of Huisman is that “there would be a recall plan” against him.

“There was an issue when we detected trout circulation certificates issued in the Social Action area. This began two months ago, an investigative commission was made and at one point a former employee of the area confessed that he had done them,” the Mayor explained.

“At that moment, Flak told them that the criminal complaint had to be made, but the councilors refused, explaining that failing to do so would result in a crime. When the councilors refused, he warned me about what was happening and I made the criminal complaint “he said.

The commission says “that my criminal complaint hinders the work of the commission and that is the argument it uses to remove me in a session riddled with irregularities that we have already denounced,” he said.

A sector of the citizenry began to gather signatures to request the “revocation of mandates”, a possibility offered by the province’s Constitution, and the municipal executive seeks a “political solution” to this situation. For the revocation to take place they must have the endorsement of 25% of the local register.

If that number is obtained, the contested councilors – those who voted to remove Huisman from office – are revoked and a vote is called again.

“We are trying to find a way to channel this politically, bearing in mind that we are going to have to continue managing for the next three years with this Deliberative Council and that it was part of ours that lent themselves to this maneuver. We are calling for the sanity, “Huisman said.

He added that he feels “very accompanied; in addition to Arcioni, the interior minister, Eduardo De Pedro, contacted me; the three national senators of the province and almost all the national deputies and mayors of Chubut and the region.”

In addition, the Supreme Court of Justice must issue the precautionary measure presented by the Administration.
