Martina Sáblíková’s bronze success at the Beijing Olympics did not leave the mother of the Czech speed skater cold. “I almost broke my son’s apartment,” laughs Eva Petrů in an interview with Nova Sport.
It was the proud mother who watched her daughter’s performance at the Olympic Games in the apartment of Milan Sáblík, the brother of the Czech speed skater. The moment it became clear that Martin would have a medal, great enthusiasm broke out in the family.
“I’m very proud of my daughter. Deep down, I wasn’t thinking about coming home without that pancake. I trusted her to clink there.” Martina Petr Sáblíková’s mother Eva Petrů tells moved.
However, the 34-year-old and now seven-time Olympic medalist was injured in front of Beijing and could not train. Even so, her mother believed in precious metal.
“For me, the medal is worth its weight in gold. Marťa had an injury on the skates, her thigh was cut. She couldn’t train and she was quite limited in movement overall. Anyway, I’m glad she was able to fight and that she was able to win the medal.” confided her mother Eva, who highlighted her extreme militancy in her daughter.
“She is a terrible warrior, she never throws a shotgun into the rye and fights, even if she has to reach the finish line on her knees. She is also motivated by her family, the fans and those behind her. She does not want to disappoint anyone.” explains Martina Sáblíková’s mother.
The Czech speed skater, who started at the 2006 Turin Olympics, now has a medal balance of 3 gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the Olympic Games. It is rightly ranked among the legends of this sport. According to the mother, whether the bronze race for 5000 meters was also the last race of Martina Sáblíková in her career depends only on her daughter. “I always told her, ‘I’ll support you in every decision you make because you’re my little girl,'” matches the mother of the speed skating champion.
