Krefeld
International Public Service Day is celebrated on June 23rd. As a modern civil and economic administration, customs has an important position within the public service, since its range of activities extends from pure service to sovereign action. With the increase in tasks in recent years, the work of customs has gained in importance – today its work is more important than ever.
Last year, the federal budget received revenue of around 141 billion euros from the customs administration. The more than 46,000 customs officers thus make a significant contribution to securing Germany’s financial capacity. As revenue administration on behalf of the federal government, customs secures the community, promotes Germany as a business location, contributes to the stability of the social systems and ensures security and economic justice. In 2021, the main customs office in Krefeld alone, with its 501 employees, generated almost 1.7 billion euros for the coffers of the federal government, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union.
In addition to levying duties and taxes, central tasks today include: consumer protection, ensuring smooth international trade in goods and fair competition, preventing and combating undeclared work, cross-border serious and organized crime and money laundering. “Our tasks are very diverse and varied. We not only ensure more justice, we also protect the country from tax fraud, product piracy and terrorism,” says Diana Hommes, spokeswoman for the main customs office in Krefeld.
In order to be well positioned in the future, customs is again looking for almost 950 flexible and motivated applicants (m/f/d) for the higher civil service and 1,650 applicants (m/f/d) for the middle service, the commitment and ability to work in a team for the large area of application of customs. As a special offer for IT fans with university entrance qualifications, a total of 25 dual study places for administrative IT specialists are to be filled for the recruitment year 2023 on two recruitment dates (01.04. and 01.10.) at various locations nationwide at the General Customs Directorate.
In addition, there will be several MINT trade fairs for IT fans in the course of the year, including in Munich and Cologne, in which customs will take part.
