Hyundai’s S-A2 Aircraft: Future Flight Plans and Key Features Revealed at CES 2024

The company announced when everyone will be able to fly on this futuristic device.

South Korean Hyundai brought a prototype of the S-A2 aircraft to the international technology exhibition CES 2024. The device is produced under the Supernal sub-brand.

Hyundai expects that the full launch of the S-A2 will take place in 2028 – by this year sales will begin and it will be possible to fly the device throughout the United States. In another couple of years, aircraft should appear in the EU and Asia. By data Bloomberg, the automaker is now preparing to apply for S-A2 certification in the States in 2024. The first test flights are planned for the end of 2024.

What you need to know about S-A2:

  • Maximum flight speed – 192 km/h;
  • Maximum flight altitude – 460 m;
  • Range — from 40 to 64 km;
  • Capacity – 4 passengers + 1 pilot;
  • Noise — up to 65 dBA when starting, up to 45 dBA when flying.

The device supports vertical takeoff and landing. On two wings there are 8 movable rotors with large propellers. It is not yet clear what powers the S-A2, since the manufacturer has not yet decided on the type of battery. Perhaps these will be solid-state electrolytes or lithium-metal batteries.

The S-A2 design may be improved or changed in the future. Almost all onboard functions are duplicated so that the device continues to operate in the event of breakdowns. You can fly both during the day and at night. Hyundai believes that the S-A2 can become the main air taxi in the world. The cost of the device has not yet been disclosed.
