Hyundai has just presented for the first time at the ACT Expo in California, its new hydrogen tractor for the North American market.
Already marketed in five countries around the world (Switzerland, Germany, Israel, Korea and New Zealand), the Xcient hydrogen truck from Hyundai officially enters the US market. The first copy was presented this week at ACT Expo, a trade show dedicated to alternative fuels held in Anaheim, California.
First deployments in California
In 2021, the South Korean automaker announced the “NorCal Zero” project, which will operate 30 Xcient trucks in California starting in the second quarter of 2023. This will be the largest commercial deployment of Class 8 hydrogen on-road tractors in the USA.
« We want to implement a viable and comprehensive solution for our North American customers. To help it in its transition to hydrogen, we will set up several supply infrastructures and we will offer it truck maintenance services. said Mark Freymueller, Senior Vice President and Head of Commercial Vehicle Business Innovation at Hyundai.
Powered by a 350 kW electric motor and two 90 kW fuel cells, the hydrogen-powered Hyundai Xcient promises more than 700 kilometers of range with a full tank.
