Hyundai will only produce electric cars in Norway from January 1, 2023

Hyundai is a leader in electric mobility and has achieved an electric car share in Norway of more than 90% during the last few years. The Norway division announced that effective January 1, 2023, will market only zero-emission electric cars in the Norwegian market.

The car manufacturer, after 8 years of continuous growth, has established itself as one of the biggest brands in the automotive sector in the Norwegian market. After the introduction of the revolutionary IONQ range in 2016, volumes increased further and since then Norwegian citizens have confirmed their already great appreciation for the brand’s vehicles.

Thomas Rosvold, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Norway, said: “We have great confidence in our model portfolio and, now that we launched the brand new IONIQ 6the time has come to focus solely on the sale of 100% electric cars in the Norwegian market. IONIQ 5 and KONA Electric have long established themselves among the most popular cars on the market and we are confident that our EVs will ensure us continued success well into the future”.

The Norwegian EV market

The Norwegian car market is confirmed one of the most advanced on a global scale in terms of electrification (we recently saw the news on the proposed EV cars); it also proved to be a spearhead for the development of Hyundai electric models.

The IONIQ Electric quickly became one of the most popular electric cars in Norway and continued to achieve significant volumes until the last car was delivered just before Christmas this year.

But in 2018, when the KONA Electric was launched, it scored a small revolution in the EV market thanks to the high autonomyat the affordable price and crossover configuration that is has proved a hit with both Norwegian and European customers.

Then the IONIQ 5 came onto the marketwhich confirmed the characteristics, practicality and technology requested by customers. The factors that made the difference were, without a doubt, the large and comfortable space on board, the high range, the crossover design of the model and the ultra-fast charging. As the IONIQ 5 is one of the most advanced electric cars on the market, it has established itself as the fifth best-selling car in Norway during 2022.

In 2020, Hyundai decided to sell only plug-in and hybrid cars in Norway, thanks to successful models such as the TUCSON Plug-In Hybrid and SANTA FE Plug-In Hybrid. And today the brand is setting a new standard in the Norwegian market.

Future plans

In these last days of the year the latest plug-in hybrid vehicles from Hyundai will be sold e from 1 January 2023 Norway will be the first market where the brand will sell only 100% electric cars.

Hyundai already owns the electric leadership in the Norwegian market and also appears to be the automaker that produces fossil fuel cars that customers most associate with electric cars; this is what emerges from in-depth analyses.

Revolutionary efficiency, long range and innovations such as 800V ultra-fast charging, V2L and maximum habitability thanks to the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture dedicated to electric vehicles are just some of the features that make Hyundai a leader in the electric car market .

From 2020 to 2022 the House sold 25,000 cars in Norway, of which 92% fully electric. A unique achievement, which allows Hyundai to take this important step in 2023.
