Hyundai wants to make cheap electric cars

Hyundai said it would work on a cheaper electric car. The South Korean manufacturer has started the development of a small electric car.

Quoted by Reuters, Hyundai’s small electric car was prepared for the Indian market. This cheap electric car with small dimensions is considered suitable for daily use.

Hyundai India Director of Sales, Marketing and Service, Tarun Garg, said that his party was preparing an electric vehicle ecosystem such as charging stations, sales networks, manufacturing and the type of assembly process for the small electric vehicle.

“We have to look at as much localization as possible,” said Gorg of using local components to control costs and keep cars affordable.

Gorg did not say when Hyundai would launch a small electric vehicle. He said the launch of a small electric car must be at the right time so that it can bring it at the right price as well.

“The ecosystem has to be ready, we have to have enough replenishment,” he said.

The small electric car is part of Hyundai’s plan to launch six electric vehicles in India by 2028. The small, low-cost electric car from Hyundai is expected to be sold in Indonesia as well.

You see, Wuling is ready to launch a small electric car produced by Indonesia. The Wuling electric car is estimated to have a price of IDR 200-300 million.

Currently, the price of electric cars in Indonesia is still relatively high. For the cheapest electric-powered passenger car, the price has penetrated Rp. 600 million.
