Hyundai Motor Company boasted new technology tires with snow chains integrated directly into the car wheel. They are made up of six movable grooves that slide out around the tires at the command of the on-board computer.

So far it is only an idea, but the company has already patented it in Korea and the USA, and if further tests verify durability and practical functionality in real terrain, Hyundai and Kia will consider mass production.
Shape memory alloy lifts and holds the grooves
The grooves around the specially shaped tire are raised by an actuator in the mold after an electric current is applied shape memory alloys. Thanks to this, the whole device could be sufficiently small and structurally simple – unlike, for example, a hydraulic system.
According to the authors of the invention, the retractable snow grooves also draw attention to flat tires. The more rubber you grind on the roads, the more the grooves will stand out even in the retracted state, which you can immediately recognize at least by the sound when driving.
