The Hyundai Transys union is calling off a month-long strike and returning to work. Accordingly, some production lines at Hyundai Motor Company and Kia factories are expected to be halted due to a disruption in the supply of transmission parts.
According to the auto industry on the 9th, the Hyundai Transys union held the 16th industrial action committee meeting this afternoon and decided to withdraw the strike. Accordingly, union members will return to work as usual from the 11th. However, the union announced that it will reject overtime and overtime work until this year’s wage and collective agreement negotiations are concluded.
However, it was reported that the union did not present any new demands related to negotiations today, and no decision has yet been made on the agenda for restarting negotiations.
Hyundai Transys management and the union have held wage negotiations a total of 15 times since last June, but were unable to narrow their differences, and the union on strike early last month.
The union asked for a performance bonus equal to 2% of last year’s sales and an increase in basic pay of 159,800 won, similar to Hyundai Motors. The point of contention was the performance bonus. The 2% of last year’s sales requested by the union is about 230 billion won, which is double last year’s operating profit of 117 billion won.
In response to this, the company expressed its displeasure, saying, “It means that in order to accept the demands of the union, we have to borrow money and pay performance bonuses,” and “It is this is a request that a normal company could not accept. “
Hyundai Transys is a company that makes transmissions, a key part of internal combustion engines. As transmissions were not supplied on time as a result of the strike, production disruptions at Hyundai Motors and Kia were steadily increasing. Hyundai Motor Company’s Ulsan Plant 1 has completely stopped some production lines, including Line 1, and Ulsan Plant 2, which produces sport utility vehicles (SUVs) into high-profit models Santa Fe and Palisade, and Kia Gwangju Plants 1 and 2 also empty areas have begun.
As concerns grew about production disruptions at Hyundai Motors and Kia and business problems at partner companies due to the long strike, about 350 officials from about 800 Hyundai Transys partner companies held a rally in Seosan, Province South Chungcheong on the 6th to apply for termination. to the strike.
An auto industry official said, “As the Hyundai Transys union continued its long-running strike by imposing unreasonable demands, complaints began that it was a ‘pointless strike’ rather than a – only from associates and partners, but also from union members, “The leadership of the union is also taking steps. ” “It would have been difficult to continue the strike without him,” he said.
