The Hyundai offer will be expanded by a small Bayon crossover. Like larger SUV brands, it uses a geographical name.

Hyundai was surprised when it announced that it would offer a completely new crossover in European markets. It will be called Bayon and will be the most affordable model in the brand’s European SUV line, which already includes the Kona, Tucson, Nexo and Santa Fe models. It will be launched in the first half of 2021.
The role of the basic SUV brand has so far been played by the Kona model in Europe, but the novelty will be even smaller and more affordable. It will thus be included directly in the segment of so-called small SUVs, which are extremely popular on European markets today. It can therefore be expected to offer exclusively front-wheel drive (unlike the Kona, also available with an ATV). But we have to wait for more information.
However, the published image of the tail light suggests that it will be a unique model. It will not be a European version of the Venue model, introduced in the USA last year. With a length of 4,036 mm, this is also the B-segment SUV.
“In the launch of the new B-segment model, which will be the gateway to our SUV product line, we see a great opportunity to fulfill the wishes of European customers even better and to expand our range in a very popular segment.” Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President of Marketing and Product at Hyundai Motor Europe, comments on the arrival of the new product.
The name chosen refers to the city of Bayonne in southwestern France, which lies between the Atlantic coast and the Pyrenees. It is an attractive destination for all fans of sailing and hiking, which should be in line with the nature of the novelty. The name was chosen after the European city, also considering that Bayon will be primarily a European product.
The name according to its geographical location is nothing new in Hyundaie’s portfolio. Bayon follows the logic already known from larger SUV brands. Tucson and Santa Fe are named after the cities of the same name in the US states of Arizona and New Mexico, while Kona refers to the region of the same name on the island of Hawaii. The hydrogen Nexo was again inspired by the town of Nexø on the Danish holiday island of Bornholm.
