“Hyundai Solaris: A Reliable and In-Demand Sedan in the Russian Market”

At one time, this sedan became a regular in Russian taxi companies, as well as one of the first high-quality and comfortable foreign cars in the country for quite sane money (at the time of its appearance in Russia, Hyundai Solaris cost only 379 thousand rubles). More than 10 years have passed and Solaris, already pretty battered by life, are being sold at prices in the region of 600 thousand rubles. Their mileage exceeds the mark of 150 thousand kilometers, but is this a sentence? Not at all.

Among the shortcomings of this South Korean four-door from the early years of production, a thin paintwork stands out, as well as not the best quality universal joints and wheel bearings. But the main units hardly suffer from serious malfunctions.

Solaris I was equipped with gasoline 1.4- and 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engines, which have plus or minus the same design, so the differences lay only in their volume. The power of the first is 107 horsepower, and the second – 123 hp, respectively.

The engines have proven to be very reliable. Their resource, with due attention from the owner, exceeds the mark of 350 thousand kilometers.

The same goes for the list of transmissions, which included a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-band “automatic”. Both the “mechanics” and the automatic transmission are able to move about as much as the engine (350 thousand km each). True, with the latter, you will have to remember to replace the working fluid every 90 thousand kilometers.

In rare cases, in such transmissions, the oil temperature sensor may fail, due to which the automatic transmission may shift gears jerkily or go into emergency mode. This malfunction is treated by replacing the sensor itself, but before that, you will have to first drain the oil from the box.

Otherwise, the 1st generation Solaris is a very hardy and unpretentious car, which is still in very high demand in the secondary market.

The most important thing when looking for such cars is not to run into a car “from under a taxi” with a mileage twisted several times.
