Korean automaker Hyundai has joined the ranks of automakers offering subscription programs for their cars. This is not a story about subscribing to individual functions, but about subscribing to the whole machine. The new service will be called “Evolve+ EV Subscription”.
As the name suggests, only electric models are available for subscription, but currently Hyundai has only two of them – the Kona Electric and the IONIQ5. The IONIQ6 will join very soon and other models will follow. Kona can be subscribed for 699 dollars, while IONIQ5 will cost 899 dollars. This amount includes car registration, insurance, roadside assistance, as well as all necessary maintenance.
All this is combined in one app, where people can choose the best offer for them online and apply for it. The only contact with the dealer is when the car is picked up and then returned.
Volvo and other car manufacturers are planning to offer something similar, but Hyundai emphasizes that their offer is a little different – the agreement can be concluded even if only for a month, there is no minimum subscription period of several months. In order to subscribe to a car, the customer must be at least 25 years old and meet the financial conditions. For now, this option is only offered in 7 US cities and only at select dealers, but Hyundai promises that the program will be expanded.
