Hyundai Motors Labor Union Secures Right to Strike in Wage and Collective Agreement Negotiations

The Hyundai Motors labor union has secured the right to strike (right to strike) related to wage and collective agreement negotiations this year.

However, as the company requested the resumption of negotiations, it is not expected to go on strike right away.

Hyundai Motor’s labor union announced today (28th) that the Central Labor Relations Commission made a decision to suspend adjustment after judging that there was a large difference in the position of labor and management in this year’s negotiations at Hyundai Motor Company.

In the previous strike vote on the 25th, a majority (88.9%) of the union members voted in favor, and with the decision to suspend adjustment this time, the union can legally strike.

However, it is unlikely that the union will schedule a strike immediately.

This is because the management officially requested the union to resume negotiations around 8:00 am on the same day, and the negotiations, which were suspended due to the union’s declaration of collapse on the 18th, are expected to resume.

The union plans to hold a meeting of the Central Dispute Countermeasures Committee at around 1:00 pm on the 30th, discuss the negotiation schedule with the company, and hold an inauguration ceremony of the Central Dispute Countermeasures Committee to share the future direction of the struggle with union members.

So far, Hyundai Motor’s labor and management have held 17 main negotiations and 40 working-level consultations, but have not been able to find a point of agreement.

Despite the resumption of negotiations, if negotiations do not speed up, the union is expected to put strong pressure on the company.

In this year’s negotiations, the union raised the basic salary by 184,900 won (excluding salary increase), paid 30% of the previous year’s net profit (including stocks) as performance bonus, 900% bonus, raised various allowances and made it a reality, and set the current retirement age of 60 as the longest They asked for an extension to the age of 64.

It is the first time in 5 years since 2018 that the union strikes related to collective bargaining.
