Jakarta –
Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) has launched the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car in Indonesia. Going forward, Hyundai said it would launch a cheaper electric car.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been produced domestically in Indonesia, to be precise at the Hyundai factory in Cikarang, West Java. Therefore, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has received incentives from the government. The price can be reduced to IDR 70 million.
However, even though the incentives have been provided, the price of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is still expensive for most Indonesians. Because, the price is still in the range of Rp. 700-800 million. Meanwhile, the biggest market in Indonesia is cars that cost Rp. 300 million and below.
“Actually, the Hyundai Motors Company already understands that the Ioniq 5 is still expensive, because it costs Rp. 700-800 million,” said Gi Baek Lee, Head of Asia Business Strategy at Hyundai Motor Group when met at its headquarters in Seoul, South Korea, Wednesday ( 12/7/2023).
For this reason, Gi Baek Lee said that his party would launch a cheaper electric car. However, the price has not been stated.
“So we already understand that to fulfill the wishes of all Indonesian consumers, we plan to launch a new EV that is more affordable than Ioniq 5,” he said.
One strategy to reduce the price of electric cars is to create an ecosystem in the country. Apart from the assembly plant, Hyundai will also build its component supply chain.
“From there we can overcome supply chain difficulties. And from there we can produce and launch EV vehicles at more affordable prices,” he said.
However, how much the price of the new electric car is also uncertain.
Meanwhile, Gi Baek Lee said that his party received a positive response from the Indonesian people with the presence of Ioniq 5. In fact, the pivot was snaking.
“Actually, at first when we just launched Ioniq 5, we encountered difficulties in supply. But lately we have been looking for solutions, such as maximizing production and supply for the production of Ioniq 5, so we already have the capacity to produce Ioniq 5 a month of 800 to 1,000 units to respond to Indonesian consumers. ,” he said.
