As part of the € 5.6 billion investment announced five months ago, the company and its affiliated suppliers plan to produce a wide range of innovative electric vehicles (EVs) under the brands Hyundai, Kia and Genesis and to create a new battery manufacturing plant. HMGMA will create more than 8,100 jobs in the coming years as the company aims to establish a stable supply chain for batteries and other electric vehicle components in the US market. Commercial production at the new HMGMA complex is expected to begin in the first half of 2025.

Hyundai and the people of the state of Georgia share many qualities: respect for their history, ingenuity, creativity and a desire to build a better world for future generations. Today our electric vehicles are among the best on the market and, through this partnership, we are determined to become a world leader in electrification, safety, quality and sustainability. With Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America, we will continue our transformation from a simple automobile manufacturer to a leading global provider of mobility solutions.

Hyundai Motor Group, leader in the electrified mobility sector in the United States

Hyundai Motor Group intends to become a leader in the transition to electric mobility in the American automotive market thanks to its new production site. The group is accelerating its electrification efforts and has set itself a goal of selling 3.23 million 100% electric vehicles per year by 2030. To do this, it plans to establish an electric vehicle manufacturing network at the global, which will ensure a stable supply around the world.

By increasing its electric vehicle and battery manufacturing capabilities in the United States, the group intends to remain among the top three electric vehicle suppliers in the United States. The group also aims to dominate the electric vehicle market not only in terms of sales, but also in terms of design, technologies and solutions optimized for the era of electric mobility. This investment is in line with the US government’s roadmap to accelerate electrification, even as automakers around the world announce plans to expand local electric vehicle manufacturing in the US. Last year, the U.S. government announced a new initiative that will see zero-emission vehicle sales represent at least half of new vehicle sales by 2030.

The group’s future production systems: intelligent, sustainable and capable of processing data

The new smart factory will be equipped with a highly connected, automated and flexible manufacturing system, where all elements of the electric vehicle ecosystem will be organically linked to create more value for customers. All the processes of production – order collection, supply, logistics and production – will be optimized thanks to AI and data processing. This innovative manufacturing system will also create a human-centered workplace, with robots to assist employees.

As part of the Group’s commitment to sustainable development, this plant will be powered primarily by renewable energy sources and will use emission reduction technologies to meet the requirements of the global RE100 initiative.

HMG’s corporate social responsibility initiatives

In addition to its commitment to creating new jobs and opportunities in Georgia, HMG announced and was pleased to have established new links with the local economy that will improve the health of local populations through its corporate social responsibility programs. To date, total donations made amount to $ 1.54 million.

Donations made by Hyundai and Genesis

Hyundai and Genesis, through their various social responsibility programs and nonprofits, have donated $ 940,000 to local organizations, including through the Hyundai Hope and Genesis Gives programs, which have already collectively pledged $ 120,000 to a dozen organizations that support local communities in and around Bryan County.

New initiatives:

  • Hyundai donated $ 120,000 to Georgia Tech, a leading technology research university, to provide scholarships in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Over the next four years, two scholarships of $ 15,000 will be awarded to eligible students.
  • Hyundai Hope On Wheels, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving outcomes and treatments for children with cancer, awarded $ 500,000 from Hyundai Scholar Hope and Young Investigator Grants to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to continue his longstanding fight against childhood cancer. Since 1998, Hyundai Hope On Wheels has pledged $ 200 million to support over 1,100 pediatric cancer research grants.
  • The Genesis Inspiration Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving children’s educational outcomes through the arts, has donated a total of $ 200,000 to two nonprofits in Georgia named drawchange and Paint Love.
