The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation (hereinafter the foundation) announced that the social impact space platform of the foundation “OnDream Society (73 Myeongdong-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul)”, opened in April, won the ” Red Dot Award 2022 “in Germany in the Brand & Communication Design category (space design) declared to have won. The Red Dot Award is considered one of the top three design competitions in the world along with the IF Design Award and the IDEA Award. Innovative and excellent designs are selected every year in each category such as concept, product, brand and communication.
“OnDream Society” is a social impact space that nurtures future talent and solves environmental problems. Through the brand slogan “A sustainable future for all”, it was designed with the foundation’s will for a sustainable future.
In this space, the foundation will create “OnDream Society” through activities that share ideas on social issues with future talents and social initiatives (Think Together), learn together (Learn Together) and suggest alternatives (Create Together). plans to become Korea’s representative social impact platform.
As it is the foundation’s first space platform, the location has been carefully selected. This space was the place of residence of Yun Seon-do during the Joseon dynasty and the place of residence of the six brothers Si-young Lee and Hoe-young Lee, who founded the Shinheung Military Academy during the Japanese colonial period. Also located right in front of Myeongdong Cathedral, it is a place where the historicity of Korea’s modern and contemporary history remains intact. The Korea YWCA Association Hall building, built in 1967, was refurbished into a social innovation space “Page Myeong-dong” and the foundation collaborated.
The space design concept of OnDream Society is BLUE ROAD (Between Leverage Unite Environment). OnDream Society extends within Myeongdong Street with Myeongdong Cathedral on the opposite side. We called this road BLUE ROAD and we expressed the will to solve environmental problems by meeting people, influencing each other and working together to solve environmental problems. The Blue Road from the main gate connects the entire space as it runs along the pillars, floor and ceiling.
For the space, eco-friendly materials and space designs were used according to the concept of eco-compatibility. We actively use upcycling materials such as ▲ cork flooring, ▲ wall greening, ▲ bean gravel flooring, ▲ waste plastic terrazzo flooring, ▲ waste recycled plastic chairs and tables, and ▲ welcome walls with empty bottles, such as interior materials, which are representative eco-friendly materials It is aimed at solving environmental problems.
‘OnDream Society’ largely consists of two spaces. Community Space (1st floor), a complex cultural space for sharing and communicating with the public, and Impact Space (6th floor), an office space that creates impact with eco-compatible social initiatives.

“ONSO Square” is a space for sharing knowledge and experiences, such as forums, workshops and exhibitions for a sustainable future. It hosts high quality conferences and forums through large LED screens and multimedia art projections for a sustainable future. Impact Space on the 6th floor is an office space where eco-friendly social initiatives and around 290 H-OnDream Fellow teams make an impact together. It consists of ▲ H-OnDream Lounge, ▲ H-OnDream Office and ▲ Meeting Room.
