LOS ANGELES, Jan. 4 (Yonhap) — Sales of Hyundai motor vehicles in the U.S. market fell 2 percent year-on-year last year, data showed on Wednesday.
Sales of Hyundai Motor vehicles reached 724,265 units in the US market last year, slightly lower than the 738,081 units recorded in 2021, according to data published by Hyundai Motor America on its website.
The company said that given that the auto industry expected total vehicle sales to decline by 8.4 percent last year, the company exceeded expectations.
The company’s retail sales totaled 708,217 units last year, setting an all-time record.
Its sales also set records last quarter and in December of last year. Its sales increased 29% year over year in the fourth quarter of last year to 195,967 units and its sales increased 40% year over year in December last year to 72,058 units.
Sales of the company’s “Ioniq” EVs were up 44% month-over-month in December.
Ionic sales increased from 1,193 units in November to 1,720 units in December.
Sales of Kia vehicles declined slightly in the US market last year.
Last year, Kia sales totaled 693,549 units, down 1% from 2021.
The company’s retail sales totaled 654,554 units, setting an all-time record. SUV sales accounted for 66.8% of total sales.
In December last year, the company’s sales reached 60,422 units, setting a record.
The company’s electric vehicle sales increased 142% year over year in December.
Among electric vehicles, EV6 sales reached 1,107 units in December, up 73% from 641 units in November.
