Hyundai Ioniq ends without a successor, the store reportedly met expectations

The electrified Hyundai Ioniq – not the Ioniq 5 – will stop production next month, but will not receive a successor. The carmaker considers the model to be pioneering and is satisfied with its sale.

A harbinger of the arrival of the later Ioniq model was the i-oniq concept from 2012, which Hyundai brought to the Geneva International Motor Show. The production car was first introduced in 2016 and took the name from the four-year concept, only removing the dash. The name Ioniq is a combination of the words “ion” and “unique”.

The Ioniq was the first car in the world to feature three variants of electrified drive from the start: hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric. With regard to its ecological focus, it also received an aerodynamic body, whose air resistance coefficient of 0.24 was the best in its class at the time. The design has also been recognized and Hyundai boasts awards such as the Red Dot Design Award and the Good Design Award.

In addition to the design awards, Ioniq has won a few awards for safety and the title of Car of the Year in several countries. The carmaker also used it as a platform for testing new technologies. For example, in 2017, at the Geneva Motor Show, it presented a prototype Ioniqu capable of autonomous operation, which it had previously tested in Las Vegas.

The brand perceives the Ioniq model as a pioneering model, both visually and, above all, technically. In addition, he created a separate line of Ioniq models, which will include a retro-futuristic-looking model Ioniq 5 soon supplemented by other siblings. However, production of the original Ioniq model will end very soon, specifically next month, but it will not receive a successor. From July, only warehouse trucks will be sold out.
