Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: The Most Powerful Production Car in History

The Czech representative office of Hyundai showed its most powerful production car in history to selected journalists for the first time. The electric Ioniq 5 N with an output of 650 horsepower dares to compete even in super sports. The price is not yet official, but it should be below the amount of 1.8 million crowns.

Korean car manufacturer Hyundai she really got into it in recent years. In the segment of cars with internal combustion engines, it has long since caught up with the once more technologically advanced European competition, which it is currently crushing with its electric cars. The cheaper representative of the zero-emission series in the form of the Hyundai Kona from Nošovice scores with low consumption and a long range, while the above-built Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models charm with their attractive design and rechargeable architecture with 800 V, which, for example, Volkswagens, Skodas, Renaults, BMWs and other brands so far they can only pretend.

A real burst of power

In addition, the Koreans also bet on the emotions that are awakened by the design of their cars and in the sporty Ionic 5 N also enormous performance and dynamics at the level of pure sports cars. This latest and least powerful entry to the N family is powered by a pair of electric motors (each on one axle) with system power 478 kilowatts or 650 horsepower and torque 770 N.m. Thanks to that, “enko” can already shoot for a hundred 3.5 secondseven a tenth of a second faster with NGB mode on.

Compared to regular Hyundai Ioniq 5, but also the sister Kia EV6 GT with 430 kW, the Ioniq 5 N underwent significant modifications. Its skeleton is generally stiffer, as it has 42 more welds and a greater number of glued joints. The chassis has been lowered by 18.5 mm at the front and 24 millimeters at the rear compared to the conventional five. The position of the battery was reduced from 170 to 152 millimeters and the clearance from 160 to 142 mm.

The sports derivative also got wider tires. Instead of twenty-inch 255/45 tires, it has a size of 275/35 R 21 for better grip. Thanks to a significantly redesigned body with more prominent vents for cooling and air flow around the car, the electric novelty is 80 millimeters longer (4715 mm), five centimeters wider (1940 mm) and twenty millimeters lower (1585 millimeters).

Front electric motor it now gives 175 kW and 370 Nm instead of the 70 kilowatts and 255 newton meters of the conventional four-wheeler. Rear unit increased from 160 kW and 350 Nm to 303 kilowatts and 400 Nm. The battery capacity has also changed. Instead of a usable 77.4 kWh, the Ioniq has 5 N 84 kilowattswhile the energy density of the cells increased from 160.6 to 173 Wh/kg, which means only a slight increase in the weight of the battery from 482 to 485.7 kilograms.

By the way, the regular Ioniq 5 will also soon receive these higher-capacity cells. The powerful variant can cover a respectable 448 kilometers on a single charge and accelerates up to 260 km/h. The maximum charging power of around 239 kW remains the same as the standard model.

The equipment includes modified adaptive shock absorbers, and you also have an electro-hydraulic controlled rear self-locking differential. “ENko” also received larger front (400 mm) and rear (360 mm) brake discs, which represents an increase of 55 and 151 millimeters, respectively, and a shortening of the braking distance by less than three meters against the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

At home on the circuit

Due to the significantly higher performance, the sports electric car received modified cooling and a special battery pre-heating system, which you can activate before sprints (temperature varies from 30 to 40 degrees) or frolicking on the circuit (20 to 30 degrees), which will help you reach the ideal operating temperature faster battery.

On the new, three-spoke steering wheel, you have buttons for quick activation of sports modes N a NGB. In case of function N e-Shift you can enjoy simulated shifting similar to that of combustion cars with multi-speed automatics.

N Active Sound+ again in Ignition mode, it imitates the sound of a powerful combustion unit. In Evolution mode, on the other hand, the Ioniq 5 N “plays” a high-performance electric symphony. And in the Supersonic mode, it resembles a jet plane, and when you step on the accelerator, the sounds are directed into the cabin and surroundings through the speakers.

Function Launch control will be able to adjust according to the type of surface, in a few steps you can also choose the distribution of the driving force between the two axles. You can also accelerate with your right and brake with your left foot, for example on a circuit. In addition, the multimedia system contains records of many world circuits, thanks to which you can, among other things, measure time and fuel consumption for individual laps.

One of the most powerful cars on the market does not yet have a Czech price. However, there is speculation about the amount below 1,800,000 CZK, i.e. at the level of the sister EV6 GT from Kia with lower performance and a less sporty character, which would roughly correspond to, for example, the price of the car in Britain (65,000 pounds or 1.84 million crowns). If it succeeds, she will not only be rejuvenated Skoda Enyaq RS with 340 horsepower, a big problem.
