Hyundai i20N through the eyes of Honza Koubek

Sure, it has a roof spoiler, lowered chassis and aggressive bumpers, but the Hyundai i20N really isn’t some cheap tuning. A specially developed engine, transmission, reinforced clutch, reinforced axles, reinforced shock absorbers, bodywork, special exhaust and brake system, and even specially designed alloy wheels – all this guarantees that this beast will perform on the road exactly as the automaker intended.

It’s not insanely fast, you need at least a class higher for that, but it’s one of those cars you don’t have to worry about standing on its neck for more than two seconds. Driving this car fast around the county is fun, not unnecessary adrenaline and worries about losing your driver’s license and insurance bonus. I could have imagined a slightly looser, hooligan chassis setup, but Hyundai knows what it’s doing – most drivers will be fine with a precise, grippy and maximally stable chassis.

That it rattles a little in the city and the position behind the wheel is a little more upright? What the heck, this is just a little hothatch, that’s how it goes. On the other hand, it offers an above-average quality and well-equipped interior and will not annoy you in heavy city traffic, even when traveling on the highway. And all this for a still pretty decent price, even if you add something for the package with the limited-slip differential. Without it, the car does not work as well when driving fast.

I also found a few opportunities to complain, as you’ll eventually see in the video, but it wasn’t too bad. This sharp little guy did well and one day he will be remembered in the same way as the old atmospheric two-liter Clio RS with a manual is today…
