The interim collective bargaining agreement prepared this year by unions and the management of Hyundai Heavy Industries was rejected in a vote of union members on the 8th.

The Hyundai Heavy Industries union announced that as a result of all union members (6,659 people) voting for and against that day, the approval rating of the provisional agreement was 49.94%.

On this day, 6194 union members took part in the vote (93.02% of the votes), of which 3093 (49.94%) were in favor and 3078 (49.69%) against. 23 (0.37%) were treated as invalid votes. It did not meet the conditions for approval of the interim collective agreement, which requires the approval of a majority of voting members.

The provisional agreement provided for a basic salary increase of 80,000 won (including 23,000 won in salary increase), a 20,000 won increase in regional and welfare benefits, the payment of performance bonuses, 3.5 million won in encouragement and 300,000 won in gift cards. It also included an increase in the number of temporary jobs for manufacturing technicians who had retired at the age of majority.

However, it was analyzed that the tentative agreement did not meet union members’ expectations for a wage increase, which had risen due to the recovery in shipbuilding orders.

The unions and the management must resume negotiations and find a second provisional agreement.
