Hyundai Genesis G80 Electrified: West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil Wants to Buy One as His Official Vehicle

West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil is one of the officials in Indonesia who uses an electric car as his official vehicle. Ridwan Kamil said he had used the first generation Hyundai Ioniq electric car and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 which had been assembled in Indonesia. Now the man who is familiarly called RK wants to buy a luxury Hyundai electric car, namely the Genesis G80 Electrified.

“I am a Hyundai consumer. A happy consumer. I used the first generation Ioniq three years ago, I still use it every day in Bandung. And now I use two Ioniq 5. So for the third, I want to buy a Hyundai Genesis, hopefully,” RK said while giving a speech at the Hyundai Energy Indonesia Groundbreaking Ceremony in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, Wednesday (31/5/2023).

Previously, Ridwan Kamil was known to have made the first generation Hyundai Ioniq electric car his official vehicle. At the end of 2020, the West Java Provincial Government officially purchased 2 units of the Hyundai Ioniq Electric sedan and 1 unit of the Kona Electric.

Ridwan Kamil uses the Ioniq Electric as an official vehicle. While two other electric vehicle units are each intended for the Deputy Governor of West Java, Uu Ruzhanul and one other car unit is used as a Patwal (Patrol and Escort) car.

Meanwhile, regarding the Genesis G80 Electrified, it is Hyundai’s premium electric car product line. Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) is known to have loaned around 44 Genesis Electrified G80 Special Edition units and 87 Genesis G80 units to support the agenda for the G20 Summit meeting in Bali at the end of 2022.

After the event ended, the Genesis electric cars were returned to the manufacturers. Until now, Hyundai itself has not officially sold the Genesis G80 Electrified in Indonesia. But recently it was discovered that the premium electric car is owned by BUMN Minister Erick Thohir. This can be seen in the State Organizers’ Wealth Report (LHKPN) which Erick reported for 2022 acquisitions. The Genesis electric car is priced at IDR 1.6 billion.

Regarding specifications, this electric car can cover a distance of up to 427 km when the battery is fully charged. To recharge, on 800V rapid charging, charging from 10% to 80% only takes 22 minutes. Under normal charging conditions, charging from 10% to 100% takes 9 hours.
