Hyundai Auto Canada will work with the Canadian company Lithion as an official partner for the recycling of batteries from electric vehicles. The partnership follows an agreement signed back in 2021 validating Lithion’s recycling technology. Under the new agreement, Lithion will partner with more than 250 Hyundai and Genesis dealers in Canada to support the collection and recycling of lithium-ion batteries.
Collection, transport and dismantling of batteries
As part of the cooperation, Lithion not only takes care of the collection, but also transports and professionally dismantles the batteries. The collected batteries will be further processed in Lithion’s new recycling plant in Saint-Bruno near Montreal. The plant was commissioned in June 2024 and can process 20,000 tons of batteries into black mass annually. According to its own information, the company recovers around 98 percent of the minerals contained in the batteries with its recycling technology.
