Hyundai Autoever‘s vehicle software (SW) platform ‘Mobilgene Classic 2.0’ recently acquired ‘Automotive-Software Process Improvement Capability design (A-SPICE)’ level 3 (CL3) certification for the first time in Korea. Hyundai Autoever’s vehicle software platform has passed an authoritative global quality review and gained international credibility.
A-SPICE certification is a vehicle software quality evaluation system created by global automobile manufacturers (OEMs). Germany’s Kugler Maag, the world’s largest certification body, reviews the certification. Coogler Mag closely verifies the SW development process of companies seeking certification based on approximately 130 items. Based on these results, a rating is given from level 0 to 5. Currently, companies wishing to supply SW-related products to European OEMs must meet Level 2. Accordingly, the global automobile industry actually evaluates Level 3 as the highest rating in existence.
After obtaining Level 1 certification in 2021, Hyundai Autoever surpassed Level 2 and immediately obtained Level 3 certification through three years of research and development and testing. According to the German Automotive Industry Association, A-SPICE Level 3 means ‘the level at which the SW process is systematically and clearly managed at the organizational level.’
‘Mobilgene Classic’, which recently obtained A-SPICE Level 3 certification, is Hyundai Motor Group’s standard vehicle SW platform. It is currently being applied to mass-produced vehicles of Hyundai Motor Group, including Hyundai Motors, Kia, and Genesis. The vehicle SW platform is similar to the operating system (OS) of a computer. Integrated control of vehicle internal communication systems and functions. Hyundai AutoEver began developing its own vehicle software platform in 2012 and first applied ‘Mobilgene Classic 1.0’ to Hyundai Motor Company’s Grandeur IG in 2016. Afterwards, we developed ‘Mobilgene Classic 2.0’, an improved platform that satisfies SW functional safety and new specifications.
As automobiles have recently evolved into ‘software-centric vehicles (SDVs),’ the importance of SW quality management is growing. Already, mainly European OEMs such as Daimler, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche are applying A-SPICE. Recently, A-SPICE is recognized as an international standard in the automobile industry, with American OEMs such as General Motors (GM) and Ford adopting A-SPICE certification.
Hyundai Autoever stands out in the mobility SW field. Prior to this A-SPICE Level 3 certification, Mobilgene Classic received the highest grade, ‘ASIL-D’, in the ‘Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL)’ functional safety evaluation prescribed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It was also obtained. ASIL is classified into four levels, from the lowest A to the highest D, depending on the severity of the accident, frequency of occurrence, and controllability. ASIL-D, secured by Hyundai Autoever, is the most stringent grade that manages failures that could lead to accidents to less than once when software is used continuously for 100 million hours.
Hyundai Autoever plans to advance the SDV era by upgrading the vehicle SW platform based on its excellent technology related to vehicle SW.
