Hyundai-Apple, into the fog of EV cooperation

Bloomberg “Apple stopped discussing… It seems to have touched the planting by exposure to the media.”

As foreign media reports that Hyundai Motor Group and Apple’s discussions on self-driving electric vehicle cooperation have been temporarily halted, negotiations between the two companies are falling into the fog.

On the 5th (local time), Bloomberg News quoted a source and said, “The negotiations have been paused recently. Apple, which has kept its development-related projects a secret for many years, must have been angry at the announcement and media coverage of Hyundai Motor Group’s (Apple Car). “It is unclear whether discussions between the two sides will resume.”

On the 8th of last month, Hyundai Motor Company announced in a public announcement about negotiations with Apple, “We are receiving requests for cooperation from a number of companies, but this has not been decided in the early stages.” There was neither positive nor negative, but interpreted that the industry acknowledged the discussion of cooperation. The fact that specific details about cooperation were reported afterwards touched Apple’s insistence on’secretism’.

Bloomberg said that Apple is conducting similar discussions with other automakers other than Hyundai Motor Company, who have been asked to refrain from the discussion. Earlier, Japanese media reported that Apple is also discussing partnerships with Japanese automakers. The Nippon Geizai Shimbun reported on the 5th that Apple is also discussing Apple cars with six Japanese automakers, including Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, Mazda, and Subaru. Hyundai Motor Group did not make an official position on the Bloomberg report on the day. The re-announcement announced by Hyundai Motor Company in relation to the Apple Car partnership is expected to come out on the 8th, but the content is expected to remain largely from the first announcement. Apple also hasn’t made any stance until this day in a series of reports surrounding the Apple Car. The industry believes that even if the discussion on cooperation with the Apple car is stopped, it can be resumed and negotiations may be prolonged. A business official said, “The negotiations may have been halted due to conditions that are difficult for Apple to accept, or the discussion may be taking a break because of hot interest.” Bloomberg also analyzed that Apple may not be looking for a partner right away because Apple car development is in its infancy and may take more than five years to mass-produce.
