[인포스탁데일리=김연수 기자] Hyundai Motor and Kia’s cumulative sales increased in May. Although sales were sluggish in China and Russia, it increased its market share in major markets such as the US and Europe.
According to the industry on the 2nd, Hyundai Motor’s global wholesale sales in May increased by 8% (YoY) to 349,000 units. Domestic wholesale sales were 69,000 units (+8% YoY), up 34% for Avante and 52% for Grandeur, while sales of Sonata (-34%) declined.
In particular, in RV, Kona increased by 232% compared to the same month last year, Tucson (+14%), and Santa Fe (+3%) increased.
Nexo, a model exclusively for hydrogen vehicles, sold 410 units (-68%, YoY). Domestic sales of the Genesis brand increased 2% (YoY) to 12,000 units (18.1% share).
Kia’s May global wholesale sales increased by 14% (YoY) to 269,000 units.
Domestic wholesale sales were 50,000 units (+10% YoY), with 16,000 units (+10%), 29,000 units (+15%), and 0.5 million units (-6%) for passenger vehicles/RVs/commercial vehicles, respectively.
Overseas wholesale sales increased 15% (YoY) to 218,000 units, and overseas sales accounted for 81.2% (+0.7%p).
Song Seon-jae, a researcher at Hana Securities, explained, “Although the sluggish performance in Russia and China is regrettable, production disruptions over the past two years have eased for both companies and the effect of increasing their market share in major markets is working positively.”
He continued, “Hyundai Motor and Kia’s 2023 wholesale sales targets are 4.321 million units and 3.20 million units, respectively.” The trend is at a similar level compared to the average achievement rate over the past three years.”
