Kia says there have been at least six reports of thermal events due to this issue. However, there were no accidents or injuries. Meanwhile, Hyundai received four similar reports.
Hyundai said to the United States National Highway Safety Agency that it had removed the suspected component from its production line since March 2023.
During the process recall, Hyundai notified dealers that a temporary replacement vehicle should be made available to customers who feel unsafe using their car until it is repaired. Hyundai says that if an owner reports a burning/melting smell, they should tow their vehicle to the nearest Hyundai dealer and not attempt to drive.
“In addition to the fire risk, heat damage can trigger a short circuit which impacts the rest of the vehicle’s controllers,” Hyundai said.
According to Hyundai, in December last year they received a report about the 2023 model Hyundai Palisade which indicated heat damage to the oil pump wiring/connector. This prompted Hyundai to open an investigation.
