Hyundai already sells only electric cars in Norway

Hyundai has announced in Norway that it will only sell pure electric vehicles from January 1, 2023. The Norwegian market is special in this respect, as the proportion of electric cars sold in the country has already exceeded 80 percent according to the latest statistics. Hyundai already holds 93 percent of its Norwegian sales.

The Korean automaker has enjoyed great success in Norway with its Ioniq Electric launched in 2016 and the electric Kona in 2018.

With the launch of the Ioniq 5 in 2021 and the Ioniq 6 this year, Hyundai has seen a rapid increase in EV sales. The Ioniq 5 has quickly become one of the most popular cars sold in Norway alongside the Kony Electric, ranking fifth in sales this year.

The success prompted Hyundai to consider stopping the sale of internal combustion cars. The move follows another bold decision two years ago to sell only plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles in Norway. The Tucson and Santa Fe plug-in hybrid SUVs will no longer be purchased by Norwegians from January.

The second generation of Kony Electric is already on the market. Thanks to the E-GMP platform, the novelty offers the same 800-volt electrical system as the Ioniq 5, probably in a cheaper and more practical package than its older brother.
