SEOUL, 26 Feb. (Yonhap) — Hyundai Motor Group announced on Sunday that it has won four safety awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Three models from the South Korean automotive group, comprising Hyundai Motor Co., the independent brand Genesis and subsidiary Kia Corp., have won the Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) award, a press release said.
The three TSP+ models are Hyundai’s Palisade SUV, Kia’s Telluride SUV and Genesis’ G90 sedan. Hyundai’s Sonata sedan has been awarded the TSP label.
This year, the non-profit IIHS selected 28 TSP+ and 20 TSP models after testing hundreds of new vehicles in five test categories of moderate front overlap, small front driver overlap, side, roof resistance and seat head restraints.
Vehicles are classified according to the rating system “Good”, “Acceptable”, “Marginal” or “Poor” after testing. If a vehicle is rated “Good” in all five categories, the model is assigned a TSP. If it also gets good marks on its headlights and in the little passenger-side straddle test, the price moves up a notch, to TSP+.
