Ahead of Monday’s home match against Kalmar FF, IFK Gothenburg is under pressure. The team has lost four of its last five matches and down to the qualifying place in the Allsvenskan, it is only four points. One who takes the situation seriously is the Blue and White icon Tobias Hysén.
In the podcast “Ljugarbänken” he gives his view on the situation.
– I read somewhere that they did not want to talk about a crisis and that there are divided opinions about what a crisis is, but I think it’s a crisis. They are leaving the Allsvenskan. There is no team in the Allsvenskan that I can look at right now and say that they are worse than Blåvitt. In terms of play, self-confidence and results, there is no opposition in the Allsvenskan that you can look at and feel that “that match has Blåvitt”. I would have liked to look at Östersund at home and say that they will take it, but I can not say so. There is nothing to suggest that Blåvitt should just take home that match, says Hysén in “Ljugarbänken”.
Three rounds ago, IFK Gothenburg won against Halmstad, but Hysén sees that effort as an exception rather than a sign of some form of strength.
He is also critical of large parts of the team’s actions in recent times.
– Many players in Blåvitt have ended up where you constantly look at someone else as soon as something happens. It is someone else who will solve the situation. The first goal against AIK was the same. There will be a long post and everyone will be watching each other. “Who’s going to take him? It’s you! No, it’s you! I have my old man here!” They have to stop looking at each other and realize that even if this is not my husband, I can go in and take the player who is most dangerous. If I have my old man, but then comes an old man who is even more free, I have to let go of the one I really should have and take him instead.
Hysén believes that there are two players who look “reasonably safe” on the pitch; Marcus Berg and Tobias Sana. Otherwise, he is critical – and he thinks that many handle the ball as if it “burns”.
The former national team forward, for example, does not applaud what Gustav Svensson and Simon Thern have achieved in central midfield. Hysén thinks that Svensson should be able to play the ball forward in the pitch more than he did and not just be wrong with the ball.
– Simon Thern should be good with the ball, but he must defend now. You can not play 4-4-2 with two inner midfielders where one should do one thing and the other another. Both have to do both. Simon Thern has to defend and he has to distribute the ball. Gustav Svensson must defend and be able to play the ball forward sometimes.
Hysén believes that there is no room for Blåvitt players to say: “That is not what I should do” in the situation you are now in.
– Is it the case that you need to take a 50-meter run home to prevent a seizure, it’s damn what you should do, no matter what your fucking role is. It’s just so. It’s the same as with companies that do not work. Then you get to do what you have to do and a little more. This is exactly where Blåvitt is right now. They have to do what they have to do and a little more. They can not stand and look at each other and state that “that was your old man”. They should think: “It’s our old man”. Someone can just take him, says Hysén in “Ljugarbänken”.
