The soldier who spoke at an anti-war rally in Piraeus was sentenced to 15 days in prison. The far-right wing of the ND (Georgiadis, Pleuris) and Petros Pappas of SYRIZA had requested his punishment.
What was particularly disturbing is not the presence of the soldier, since uniformed people have been participating in protests for decades, but the dangerous juncture with Israel’s attacks on Gaza and Lebanon.
At the same time, it is hypocritical to punish a soldier and not the officer who served in the HYTHA and who had announced his candidacy with Yannis Sgourou’s faction in the Regional Elections but was forced to withdraw because there was a partisan and not official reaction, as militaire.gr had revealed.
What was not withdrawn was the appearance of the then Head of GEETHA, Konstantinos Floros, also known as the monitored “519c”, who appeared in full uniform at a New Democracy event, at the Samara Foundation, in 2022 and was applauded.

Announcement of the KKE on the punishment of the soldier
“We denounce the ND government for the unacceptable punishment of 15 days in prison, to a soldier who attended the anti-war gathering of the KKE in Piraeus.
The soldier with his presence and speech, like many other soldiers throughout Greece, expressed their opposition to the participation of the Armed Forces in the war plans and missions of NATO and the European Union.
They demanded that our country come out of the slaughterhouse of Ukraine and the Middle East, to stop all involvement and support for the murderous state of Israel. No matter what measures the ND government takes, with the support of SYRIZA MPs and with the blind tolerance of the rest of the parties in the NATO arc, they are not going to silence the soldiers, the officers, the Greek people who are fighting against the war, condemns NATO , the USA, the EU.
Now we are everywhere strengthening the struggle and solidarity with the people’s enlisted children. In schools, schools, places of work, in cities and villages, let the slogan “the soldiers are the people’s children, they have no job outside the borders” be heard everywhere!
