Imagine if you could travel Oslo – Stockholm in half an hour? It is not a distant science fiction invention, but can actually become a reality.
– Hyperloop trains will most likely go into commercial traffic during this decade, and by 2030 at the latest, Thomas Dahlgren claims to Expressen.
He is the chairman of Hyperloop Sweden, which aims to establish a Swedish Hyperloop connection to a European network before 2030.
The trains of the future can park the short-haul planes at their incredible speed:
The futuristic technology means that the “pods” or carriages you sit in float a few centimeters above electromagnetic tracks inside a vacuum tunnel. Not unlike the maglev trains that already exist.
The big difference is that the Hyperloop trains go inside a tunnel that reduces friction, which means that you can reach speeds of between 700 and 1000 kilometers per hour.
Critical to new study
The technology was tested with passengers by the American company Virgin Hyperloop already in 2020. They say they can have such trains in commercial traffic already in 2027.
– You can look at it as a subway that runs between cities, instead of within a city, Dahlgren says Expressen.
A journey from Oslo to Stockholm should be able to take just over 30 minutes, and it will not take much more than an hour to Berlin.

Dagbladet mentioned the Hyperloop train already in 2017, when MDG asked the Storting to look at possibilities for building such pipelines between major cities in the Nordic region.
