Hydro-Québec announces that it has mandated the firm AECOM to meet the residents of La Prairie and Saint-Philippe who will be affected by the installation of the new underground line connecting the province to New York. Door-to-door visits will be carried out from August 10 to 20, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., specifies the state company.

The objective of these individual meetings is to allow Hydro-Quebec to draw up a list of wells and private water treatment infrastructures located near potential drilling sites, she explains.

“The inventory process takes place in collaboration with the municipalities and the data collected could be communicated to them”, reveals the state company.

Depending on the results, Hydro-Québec will be able to determine whether specific measures need to be taken during the work.

The route of the planned new power line must connect the Hertel substation to La Prairie in New York State. In Quebec, eight municipalities will be crossed by the new facilities, namely La Prairie, Saint-Philippe, Saint-Jacques-le-Mineur, Saint-Édouard, Saint-Patrice-de-Sherrington, Saint-Cyprien-de-Napierville, Saint- Bernard-de-Lacolle and Lacolle. Construction is due to start in the spring of 2023.

Hydro-Québec is planning an underground segment of 56.1 km and an underwater segment of 1.6 km. The energy produced will power more than one million homes, according to its estimates.
